Object LIVE™ Suite of Technology

Object LIVE™ is a learning object management system that supports the authoring, retrieval, assembly and electronic publishing of learning objects. It achieves full interoperability across Learning Management Systems in a uniform way and allows for reuse and data exchange of the individual content pieces in the recipient delivery system.

Object LIVE™ is an integrated learning object development and exporting system that can dynamically assemble and deliver electronic learning objects in full, customizable learning modules. It includes digital media learningware objects that are deliverable via a network and are not tied to a specific operating system or content application platform and can incorporate, manipulate and present learning objects and object elements that are indigenous to the Object LIVE™ Learning Object Repository (LOR), or that reside in external, standards-compliant LORs that exist elsewhere on the World Wide Web.

Supported by the Canadian Government's program for research and development in new technologies, Object LIVE™ represents some of the latest technology in e-learning.

In particular, increasing acceptance of online learning coupled with the identification of true development costs and the desirability of multiple delivery modes - including stand-alone CBT (Computer Based Training), blended learning, remediation and customization - has led directly to the creation of multi-national research and development groups that are attempting to develop recommendations for standards for the development and deployment of flexible learning objects. Most significant of these are the ADL Sharable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM) and the IMS recommendations for standardization. Object LIVE™ research and development was based on the application of these proposed system initiatives.

Thomson Job Impact Study Confirms Blended Learning Yields Up to 163 Percent Increase in On-the-Job Performance. The study announced that phase two of the Thomson Job Impact Study, "The Next Generation of Corporate Learning," further reinforces that a blended learning program incorporating a combination of e-learning, online instruction, simulations, texts, mentor/instructor support, and live classroom-based training has the power to significantly increase employee productivity.

These findings follow earlier study results that revealed blended learning is a far more effective approach to training than single-delivery methods alone.
